A long time ago, in the land ofVaranasi, there was a king named Mahasilavarat who possessed of great intelligence, kindness and compassion. In his reign with righteousness for the benefit and happiness of the people, he was fond of giving alms to the poor and needy. He gave 6 almshouses: four at the city gate (each almshouse in each direction: North, South, West, and East), one in the middle of the city and one at the palace gate, for giving alms to the poor, the orphan, and the travelers.

In the mean time, there was an evil amaatya (amaatya in Sanskrit, means court official) who saw the kindness and compassion in the king. He became bold to sneak in the palace many times, until the king was informed about this action. Even though, whoever sneaked in the palace must be punished in death.  But the king just said that the evil amaatya should be exiled from the Varanasi city

Once the evil ammaaty had been expelled from theVaranasi city, he felt very angry. So, he and his family immigrated to stay in the Kosol city

Besides, not only the evil ammaaty was a skilled and capable person, but he also was a flatterer. Therefore, finally, he became one of the trustable personsof the king Kosol.

One day while they were discussing about running the Kosol city. The evil amaatya met the opportunity to seek revenge against the king Mahasilavarat ofthe Varanasi city.

The king Kosol listened to him, but he did not believe at once. Because the king Kosol knew that he had lived in Varanasi city before.

The king Kosol was still not convinced. But the evil amaatya said that so confidently, so the king Kosol just tried to do once as he said by letting some soldiers disguise themselves as robbers, and sending them to rob the villagers around the Varanasi city’s border.

The event was like the evil amaatya said. When the false robbers who were sent from the king Kosol, were arrested, the king Mahasilavarat just made the inquiry and investigated with sympathy.

After the king Mahasilavarat released those robbers, and they then immediately went to inform the king Kosol about what happened.

After the king Kosol was informed. He then fell for the evil amaatya’s words.  But to make sure, the king Kosol had the soldiers disguise themselves as robbers, to go rob the villagers near the city.

The event turned out like the last time. After the gang had been arrested, the king Mahasilavarat then released them, and also gave them some money to make their fortune.

After the king Mahasilavarat released the gang. The king Kosol still questioned that when king Mahasilvarat’s throne was taken by force, whether he would fight to gain back his throne or not. So, to make really sure, the king Kosol had the soldiers disguise themselves as robbers again, to go rob the villagers near the city.  It still turned out like the last two times.

The king Kosol was in high spirits afterward. He was sure that king Mahasilvarat would not dare to do battle. So, he deployed troops around the Varanasi city.

There were a lot of unparalleled ability of army leaders and amaatyas in the Varanasi city.  When the king Kosol deployed troops around the Varanasi city. Those warriors told the king that they would volunteer themselves to battle against the king Kosol’s troops and to arrest and punish him.  But the king disagreed with them and that idea was forbidden by him also.

For this reason, the king Kosol became conceited. The king Kosol deployed troops closer the heart of Varanasi city, without any lose of life.

Although those warriors and amaatyas wanted to fight against the king Kosol’s troops, but they had to hold back because of the respect they had for king Mahasilvarat who had great integrity.

Since the king Kosol could easily deploy troops adjacent to the Varanasi city.  The king Kosol then became suspicious of whether king Mahasilvarat would lay a plot to entrap him or not. So, the king Kosol had sent the letter to ask the king Mahasilvarat that he would give him a throne or do battle.

Then the king Mahasilvarat had ordered soldiers to open the city gate. The king was sitting on the throne.  The amaatyas and thousands of army leaders were in a calm.

When the king Kosol captured the Varanasi city, the king Mahasilvarat and his amaatyas and thousands of army leaders were arrested. They all were tied with rope. They were taken to the zombie cemetery, and then the soldiers buried their live bodies in the deep holes, just let their heads poke out of the dirt, to wait for the wolves and the wild animals bite to eat.
